Make Splott's parks safer say local Lib Dems
Parks and green spaces across our communities must be safe and accessible for everyone to enjoy, say the local Lib Dem team, as they launch a new campaign calling for action.
Local residents were horrified after police were called to reports of a sexual assault at Splott Park last month, while many have complained that anti-social behaviour and poor lighting often mean they can’t enjoy it safely.
Meanwhile, several dogs have been injured and even killed due to running into unsuitable steel barriers at Moorland Park while out playing. Tremorfa Parkrun has also repeatedly had to be cancelled over the past few months due to horses being left to graze along its route.
Local Lib Dem campaigner Cadan ap Tomos has launched a new campaign calling for authorities to work together and review safety in parks across our area.
Cadan said: “We’re lucky in our area to have so many green spaces on our doorstep – but they’re little use if people feel too afraid or unable to use them.
“Whether it’s poor lighting, unsuitable barriers or anti-social behaviour, it’s clear that there are lots of issues in our parks that have sometimes gone years without being fixed.
“That’s why I’ve launched this campaign calling on the council, the police and other authorities to come up with a plan together to fix these issues.”
