Save the sports pitches on Roath Rec

As part of an improvement scheme for Roath Rec which sees the footpaths upgraded and a new cycle route introduced along one side, Cardiff's Labour run council has sneaked through a decision to also reduce the number of sports pitches from four to three. Despite the council having run two public consultations on the improvement scheme, it was never mentioned once that one of the sports pitches would have to be lost.

Cardiff Liberal Democrats have therefore launched a petition urging the local authority's Labour leaders to think again, and ensure the plans are revised so that all four existing sports pitches can be retained.

The leader of Cardiff Council's Liberal Democrat Group, Councillor Rodney Berman, said: "This is outrageous and completely anti-democratic. Labour can't just go ahead and remove one of our sports pitches without any consultation with local residents.

"Please back our campaign by signing the petition below. We must persuade the council's Labour leaders to change their minds."

Save the sports pitches on Roath Rec

I/we, the undersigned, demand Cardiff Council's Labour leaders revise the plans for Roath Rec to ensure that all four existing sports pitches can be kept.
