Keep a period of free parking in Cardiff's local council-run car parks

Cardiff Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign against the Labour-run council's plans to abolish the current free parking period in a number of local car parks across the city.

The council is proposing to introduce new charges for parking with no free parking period in various local car parks as follows:

  • Penylan Library - from £1 an hour between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Sunday
  • North Road - from £1 an hour between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Sunday
  • Heath Park Main and Model Railway, and Heathwood Lane - 50p or more an hour betweeen 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Friday
  • Grey Street, Harvey Street, Severn Road and Wellington Street, Canton - from £1 an hour between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Sunday
  • Merthyr Road and Penlline Road, Whitchurch - 50p an hour between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Saturday
  • Llandaff High Street - 50p an hour or more between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Saturday
  • Llandaff and Pontcanna Fields - from £1 an hour between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Sunday

Cardiff Liberal Democrats are deeply concerned this will hit local shops and businesses in many of our suburbs and drive many shoppers to larger supermarkets and retail parks where free parking is provided. This could lead to local shops and businesses in our district shopping centres closing down.

We are also concerned that some parking could be displaced into surrounding residential streets making it harder for residents to park near theirr own homes.,

Please sign our petition to help persuade Cardiff Council's Labour leaders to change their minds.

Keep a free parking period in Cardiff's local council-run car parks

I/we, the undersigned, call on Cardiff Council to keep a period of free parking in local council-run car parks across the city. Removing this will hit trade for local shops and businesses, and increase parking pressure in surrounding residential streets.
