Splott snubbed for EV charger scheme

Splott and Tremorfa haven't been made priority areas for new Cardiff Council plans to install electric car chargers on streets in inner-city areas.

This is despite most houses in the area not having any off-street parking where chargers can be installed at home.

Splott’s Labour councillors cheekily boasted about the new scheme on their Facebook page, even though according to the roadmap our area won’t be prioritised.

Local Lib Dem campaigner Cadan ap Tomos said: “Plenty of local people want to make greener choices with their car, but the infrastructure just isn’t there to help them.

“Nearly all of Splott and large parts of Tremorfa lack off-street parking, and there’s only three public charging sites across our whole area.

“As well as neglecting us here, the council’s plans shouldn’t just rely on expensive public chargers. It should be easier to install cable channels in pavements too, so people without driveways can also benefit from cheaper home charging rates.”
